ENGLEWOOD — A 25-year-old woman shot four times while driving in Englewood late Monday night may have been saved by her cell phone.

Around 11:15 p.m., the woman was stopped at a red light in the 7100 block of South Wentworth Avenue when she heard gunshots and felt pain, according to Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with two gunshot wounds in her hand and one each in her shoulder and temple, Lemmon said. She was listed in serious condition.

No one is in custody, police said.

The victim's father told ABC7 that his daughter was coming home from her job at FedEx and was talking on her cell phone while waiting for the light to change. The phone may have prevented the bullet that hit her in her head from doing more damage, he told the station.

The unidentified father said  doctors expect his daughter to survive but she will need plastic surgery.
