WEST HUMBOLDT PARK — A 38-year-old man died after being shot in his back in West Humboldt Park Tuesday night, police said.

Around 9:25 p.m., the man was walking in the 1300 block of North Pulaski Road when he heard gunshots and felt pain, according to Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was brought to Stroger Hospital, Gaines said, where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as James Hooks, of the 4500 block of South LaCrosse Avenue.

No one is in custody, police said.
