NEAR WEST SIDE — Joe Perillo is now in the hotel game.

Perillo, owner of Perillo Auto Group, recently opened Hotel Chicago, a new 117-room hotel in a historic building at 1622 W. Jackson Blvd. Close to the West Loop's hot restaurants and the Illinois Medical District, the independent hotel aims to serve hospital visitors, UIC students and travelers, Perillo said.

Rooms at Hotel Chicago start at $139 per night. Options include a single full bed, a bunk double twin and a king deluxe, with amenities that include cable, free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour fitness center and on-site washing machines.

Three years in the making, Perillo said the hotel was originally intended to serve families visiting loved ones at nearby hospitals.

"Since then, the growth of the West Loop has caused us to slightly adjust our strategy," Perillo said. "We ended up fashioning a European boutique hotel, with all the amenities of an extended stay mini apartment, in order to appeal to savvy travelers."

Close to the Blue Line, Hotel Chicago is within walking distance to Randolph's Restaurant Row and the Medical District and a short ride to Greek Town, Little Italy or Union Park.

The new hotel is managed by Helmut Horn, president of Portfolio Hotels & Resorts.

"Whether you're going to a concert at the United Center or dinner on West Randolph, we give you a central location to begin or end your evening," Horn said.

The building at 1622 W. Jackson St. was formerly home to the Rosemoor Hotel, a single-room occupancy hotel.
