COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Chicago Police officers watched a South Loop man toss a gun moments after it was used to kill 28-year-old Robert Roseneau, prosecutors said Thursday.

Raul Martinez, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder in the Monday night shooting, which happened in the 2000 block of North Pulaski Road in Logan Square.

Martinez walked up to Roseneau, a rival gang member, and fired seven shots — striking Roseneau five times in his arms, chest, groin and flank, Assistant State's Attorney Brian Whang said during a bond hearing Thursday.

Officers on patrol in the area heard the shots and arrived on Pulaski just in time to see Martinez, who was about 10 feet from Roseneau, start running westbound toward an alley, prosecutors said.

Police gave chase and saw Martinez drop a .45 caliber semiautomatic handgun in an alley, Whang said. The moment was captured on dashcam video from the officers' marked squad car.

Police were able to arrest Martinez about 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 4000 block of West Armitage Avenue, court records show.

Officers recovered seven shell casings and the gun Martinez dropped, which no longer contained live rounds, prosecutors said.

Preliminary tests revealed the shell casings were a match to Martinez's gun, and Martinez had gunshot residue on his hands, Whang said.

Roseneau was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas on Thursday ordered Martinez, of the 1400 block of South Canal Street, held without bail.
