DOWNTOWN — Crown Fountain, the modern-day totem poles known for their spitting images of Chicagoans in Millennium Park, are back on for summer.

It's another sign of spring Downtown, adding to the new rooftop bars and sidewalk patio chairs slowly popping up throughout the city's core. A city spokesman said the fountain was turned on earlier this week.

The fountain, a pair of 50-foot-tall video screens showing real Chicagoans spouting water out of their mouths, has been a popular attraction in Millennium Park since its 2004 debut.

The fountains were created by the artist Jaume Plensa, who also designed the "Looking Into My Dreams, Awilda," sculpture that recently came down in the park.

Meanwhile, Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park, will be switched on for the summer on Saturday (though it was running earlier for the NFL Draft.)

On Friday, temperatures are expected to hit the 70s.
