DOUGLAS — Sophia King is holding her first constituent night as 4th Ward alderman on Monday night and is planning her first town hall at 6 p.m.

King was appointed interim alderman April 11 by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to fill the vacancy left by Will Burns until a special election can be held in February.

King, who previously ran a nonprofit, is easing into the job and has started making appearances with the mayor at events, like a Thursday visit by NFL draft picks to Ariel Community Academy.

King has kept much of Burns’ staff and moved into his old offices at 435 E. 35th St.

The 5-8 p.m. Monday constituent night at the ward office will be one of her first chances to hear from constituents what they want her working on as alderman.

At 6 p.m. May 16 at the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, 700 E. Oakwood Blvd., King will hold her first ward town hall. An agenda for the meeting has yet to be released.
