CHICAGO — A 36-year-old man died and a 17-year-old was wounded after the two shot at each other in Washington Park Saturday, according to police.

The man and teen were in the 100 block of West Garfield Boulevard at 1:20 p.m. Saturday when they began firing at one another, said Officer Kevin Quaid, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was shot in the chest and side and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Quaid said. He has been identified as Deitrick Strogner, of the 4600 block of South Prairie Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The 17-year-old was shot in the left leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was in good condition, Quaid said. Charges are pending against the teen, Quaid said.

The man and teen are documented gang members, police said.
