UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — In January, Redfin declared Ukrainian Village to be the hottest neighborhood in the nation and now the West Town enclave has gotten props from CNN.

CNN named Ukrainian Village one of Chicago's five coolest neighborhoods," this week, calling it a place where "old Ukrainian delis, modern restaurants and dive bars live happily together."

The fact that Ukrainian and other Eastern European families still live in the neighborhood, frequenting Ukrainian grocery stores, churches and the Ukrainian National Museum, is a draw.

Shokolad Cafe, 2524 W. Chicago Ave., Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. and A Tavola., 2148 W. Chicago Ave. were all spotlighted in the story.

In the last few years, Chicago Avenue — Ukrainian Village's main commercial street —  has seen a boom in new retail shops, restaurants and apartments.

And since many streets in the area are in the Ukrainian Village Landmark District, much of its character has been preserved.
