SOUTHPORT CORRIDOR — Give a big "Cheerio!" to Lush Cosmetics, which arrives in Chicago from England on Friday.

The handmade cosmetic store will open in the former Homemade Pizza Co. at 3430 N. Southport Ave. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and close at 6 p.m. Sundays.

Modeled after Lush's flagship shop on Oxford Street, the Lakeview store incorporates recycled materials such as reclaimed wood into its design, said Tracy Grant, the design manager for Lush.

"Part of the Lush appeal is our design, branding and innovative retail experience," Grant said. "We hope to entice even more passers-by to come inside and discover what wonderful pleasures await them."

Lush prides itself on creating natural, fresh products since the 1970s. Its creators found success selling products to The Body Shop in the '80s before opening the first Lush storefront in 1995.

In 2007, the company launched the Charity Pot lotion line. All proceeds — totaling almost $11 million so far — are donated to environmental, humanitarian and animal rights charities.

Lush products use fruits and vegetables, essential oils and sustainably sourced ingredients. About 85 percent are vegan, while 40 percent are free of preservatives, the company said. Some of its most popular items are brightly colored bath bombs, solid shampoo bars and face masks.

The 1,350-square-foot store will be the fourth Chicago location and 238th Lush shop in North America. Lush also has shops in Water Tower Plaza, Bucktown and Lincoln Park.

A grand opening is set for late May.
