HUMBOLDT PARK — After a recent surge in violence in Humboldt Park, Ald. Roberto Maldonado (26th) is hosting the second emergency meeting to discuss solutions Tuesday.

The first meeting last week was heavily attended and featured lots of ideas on what's to blame for the rise in crime, specifically shootings, in the neighborhood in the past few months.

Tuesday's meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Maternity BVM Church, 3647 W. North Ave.

Cmdr.Anthony Escamila of the Grand Central Police District is expected to attend.

In an email to constituents, Maldonado said he plans on applying pressure to ensure the new interim Supt. Eddie Johnson delivers on a promise to increase the number of police officers in both the Shakespeare and Near West police districts.

"I must hold our police accountable but I also call on all residents to band together. The 14th District is at the bottom half of the city's volume of 911 calls, specifically 16th out of 25. Only with your help can we bring that up," Maldonado said in the email, adding "More 911 calls get more service."

The alderman plans to bring back community meetings with neighborhood police commanders every six weeks "until residents feel safe and secure."
