SOUTH SHORE — Henry English, founder of the Black United Fund, will be remembered at a Monday night event hosted by Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

English, 73, was in car accident at 63rd and Lake Shore Drive on March 5. He suffered a heart attack and died shortly after.

Emanuel will host an event to remember English’s life at 6 p.m. Monday at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive.

In 1983, English founded the Black United Fund, a nonprofit that invested in economic development in South Shore and African American communities.

Gospel singer Kim Stratton will perform. Emanuel will lead a group of guest speakers at the event.

Space is limited and those hoping to reserve a spot are encouraged to email MayorRSVP@CityofChicago.org.

A wake was held for English on Wednesday at Apostolic Church of God, 6320 S. Dorchester Ave., with an interment at Oakridge Cemetery in Hillside.
