UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — Two new restaurants are expected to replace the shoe store at Halsted and Maxwell streets near the UIC campus, officials said this week.

After Shiekh Shoes moved out of 1313 S. Halsted St., OHM Concession Group leased the 7,439-square-foot storefront in December, confirmed Sherri McGinnis Gonzalez, UIC spokeswoman. Two new restaurants are expected to open there this year, officials said in December.

While UIC representatives said the restaurants have not yet been determined, CBRE real estate agents said in December that the storefront will house Bracket Room, the first of its kind in Chicago, and Good Stuff Eatery's second Chicago location.

Good Stuff Eatery, a burger bar by Top Chef Chicago alum Spike Mendelsohn, has four locations in the United States, including one in the Loop.

Milan Patel, CEO of St. Louis-based OHM Concession Group, could not be reached this week.

Founded in 1997, OHM Concession Group has opened a number of airport restaurants. The group operates a number of restaurant brands, including Bracket Room and Good Stuff Eatery.

Yolanda Valle, CBRE senior director of Client Strategy, represented UIC, the property's owner, in the deal.

The new restaurants will be across the street from Bar Louie, which opened in December in the former Morgan's on Maxwell.
