CITY HALL — Developers are planning to replace the ruins of a half-finished condo development with 20 new townhouses.

The Chicago Plan Commission on Thursday approved plans for four rows of five townhouses each at 4639 S. Lake Park Ave.

Lexington Shore will replace a failed development that halted after just the first floor was built.

"This is a tremendous project in terms of getting rid of a massive eyesore in the 4th Ward," Ald. Will Burns said.

Plans submitted to the city call for three-story 2,000-square-foot townhouses, each with a balcony, rooftop deck and a garage on the first floor accessed from a private driveway.

A spokesman for the developer said the buildings will alternate between two different facades, similar to another series of townhouses developed in Bridgeport at 3755 S. Morgan St.

The buildings will be a mix of three- and four-bedroom units and are expected to list for $359,990.
