KENWOOD — High winds Friday ripped apart the scaffolding outside the Regents Park Luxury Apartment at 5050 S. Lake Shore Dr.
Wooden planks and material that appeared to be either metal or aluminum flew off the top into the apartment's outdoor parking lot. Seventeen cars were parked in the lot located on the southeast corner of East End Avenue.
The wooden planks from the top of the scaffolding were scattered across the parking lot, surrounding the cars. Some empty parking spots were piled up with the construction material.
It was unclear if any cars suffered any significant damage.
Police blocked off part of 50th Street from East End towards Lake Shore Drive.
Building officials declined to comment.
