UPTOWN — Profiles Theatre will perform both "Vices" and "Virtues" Sunday with all benefits going to Sarah's Circle, an Uptown non-profit for women who are homeless or in need of a safe place.

The two performances will coincide with Sarah's Circle's annual Winter Walk, which "is an opportunity to better understand homelessness through the eyes of those who struggle with it personally," according to the Sarah's Circle website.

“I’m very excited to be part of Profiles Theatre’s donation to Sarah’s Circle this year. I think it’s so important for artists to connect with their local community in any way possible, not just through the work they do onstage but also with the work they do in their own neighborhood,” said playwright Neil LaBute, whose eleven short plays make up "Vices" and "Virtues."

"I’m happy that the proceeds from a show that I’ve written are being donated to this worthy organization and I hope this kind of activity can become an annual event for Profiles. This is the kind of thing that more theaters and individual artists should be doing — I’m grateful to be working with a group of fellow artists who are dedicated to nurturing not just the mind and the heart but the spirit, as well," LaBute said.

"Vices" contains LaBute's "I'm Going to Stop Pretending That I Didn't Break Your Heart," "Totally," "Happy Hour," "The Great War" and "Lovely Head." "Virtues" contains LaBute's "Swallowing Bicycles," "Good Luck (in Farsi), "Romance," "10-K," "Kandahar" and "Mulberry Bush."

On Feb. 21, the productions will take place at the Alley Stage, 4147 N. Broadway. "Virtues" will be performed at 3 p.m. "Vices" will be performed at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 each.

“When we approached Neil about benefit performances of his work, he was completely thrilled with the idea. He’s always been incredibly generous to our theater and huge part of our success. It was very important to all of us to join together and give something back," artistic director Darrell Cox said.

The 24th Annual Winter Walk will begin at 1 p.m. at Truman College, 1145 W. Wilson Ave., where a client will share her story of facing homelessness. From 1-3 p.m., participants will walk a mile "through the Uptown neighborhood, increasing awareness about homelessness in our city and raising critical funds for Sarah's Circle," 4838 N. Sheridan Road, according to its website.
