LOGAN SQUARE — As popular bar/venue East Room seeks a late night liquor license, the owner of its building received a permit to build a new bar.

The permit, which was issued Monday, estimates the renovations at $200,000. It allows for a first floor office to remain, and a second floor area at 2354 N. Milwaukee Ave., to be converted to allow for tavern use.

Russ Grant, a partner at East Room, said the bar has nothing to do with the permit.

It is unclear what the permit is for, but Grant declined to comment further, adding the permit is for "the worst kept secret on Milwaukee Ave."

The owner of the building, Liberty Center, LLC., which is run by Demetrios Kozonis, according to state records, did not return calls for comment Saturday.

The building permit includes new interior and exterior stairs and a total area of 4,699 square feet.

Project Description   Interior rehabilitation to existing 2 story masonry building with basement type 3b construction, first floor office use to remain and second floor to be converted to new small assembly, tavern use ( 4423 sf ) , new interior and exterior stairs as per plans, total area of work 4699 sf. **certified plan corrections project - conditional permit: subject to field inspections **
