HUMBOLDT PARK— Family members and neighbors of a 37-year-old man killed in a Humboldt Park shooting Thursday night said they are praying the violence would stop.

Although officials have yet to identify the victim in the shooting, family and neighbors identified him as Reggie Bonner.

The victim was in a car in the 1100 block of North Springfield Avenue at 5:19 p.m. when a car pulled up and someone inside fired shots, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Mary McCarter, Bonner's godmother, was driving when she received a call from her daughter relaying the tragic news. She lives on the same block as Bonner. A neighbor told DNAinfo that the shooting took place in front of McCarter's home.

"Reggie was a nice person who had a great personality. He loved life. If you needed help, he would step in," McCarter said. "He was nice to the people in the neighborhood."

Pawan Bonner, Reggie's sister, said her brother was an outgoing person who loved to sing and dance. Bonner said they were raised in a Christian home.

"As a family, we pray that the violence would stop. The violence in our neighborhood has been increasing lately," Bonner said. "As far as the incident, we have no details. We don't know what led up to it. We don't know anything. Right now, our goal is to give Reggie a great home going."

In a Facebook post from Feb. 1, Reggie Bonner implored his friends to "stop the killing" and made a reference implying that a friend was recently murdered.

Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman, told DNAinfo told no one is in custody for the shooting.
