HYDE PARK — The programmer of Chicago’s Black Harvest Film Festival and the author of a new book on race in Chicago cinema are hosting a free showing of blaxploitation classic “Slaughter’s Big Rip-Off” on Friday.
Gerald Butters, author of “From Sweetback to Super Fly: Race & Film Audiences in Chicago’s Loop,” and Sergio Mims of the film festival will screen the film at 4 p.m. Friday at Black Cinema House, 7200 S. Kimbark Ave.
In the sequel to “Slaughter,” Jim Brown plays Slaughter, a Vietnam veteran who’s moved to Los Angeles where he’s pursued by a crime boss bent on getting revenge for Slaughter’s murder of his former boss.
The film features a soundtrack by James Brown.
