LOGAN SQUARE — If Logan Square is feeling extra dark today, it could be the afterglow of a hex put on the neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

WITCH, an activist group, caused a stir when it announced plans for the hexing and "protective charge" that it planned to put on the neighborhood a few weeks ago.

This weekend the group followed through with its dark/performance art action, which were intended to draw attention to gentrification in the neighborhood.

"This action is not as much about witchcraft as it is about bringing attention to the housing dynamics in Chicago, namely housing insecurity, a lack of affordable housing and speculative development," said Chiara Galimberti, a member of Women's International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell or WITCH.  "The voices of the people that are most impacted by predatory housing should be the ones at the forefront of this discussion, people who have grown up and lived in Logan Square all their lives and whose stories are not being reported on."
