CHICAGO — Thieves pretended to be city or utility workers and preyed on elderly people in recent Bridgeport robberies, police said.
During two incidents, robbers drove around neighborhoods looking for senior citizens, according to a Chicago Police alert. Once they found their victim, they would go up to him or he and say they were utility workers, city employees or cable TVs techs and contractors and claim there was a problem to get inside their victims' homes.
Once inside their victims' homes, one of the robbers would distract the victim or lure him or her outside while the other person or people stole from the victim's home, police said. The robbers targeted cash and jewelry.
The incidents occurred:
• 1:52 p.m. Jan. 17 in the 3200 block of South Parnell Avenue
• 3:50 p.m. Monday in the 2900 block of South Throop street
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call police at 312-747-8382.
