BRIDGEPORT — Construction crews will soon rip up parts of Throop Street to install a new water main.

The project will drop 1,031 feet of 12-inch piping under South Throop Street, from West 31st Street to West 32nd Place — and from South Throop Street to South Racine Avenue.

The old water main dates back to 1878 and needs to be replaced, according to a city letter sent to residents on Feb. 1. The work is set to start in "early February."

Roads may be closed or constricted until the project is complete. Outside working hours, a travel lane will be available for local traffic only.

For more information, the city encourages you to talk with the construction foreman during the project. You can also call these numbers:

• 24-Hour City Service Line: 311

• 11th Ward Office: 773-254-6677
