BRIDGEPORT — Connie's Pizza plans to get slammed on Super Bowl Sunday.
But slice boss Mike Stolfe and his kitchen of pizza cooks will be ready for the onslaught of party orders.
“It’s total chaos,” Stolfe said of the busiest day of the year for his restaurant at 2373 S. Archer Ave. "I'll have pizza sauce all over my shoes by the end of the night."
Stolfe recently analyzed pizza and wing consumption at Connie's during last year's Super Bowl. Here's a look at the gooey, greasy stats and facts behind what it takes to deliver pizza on the biggest sports day of the year:
Orders: 1,450
Pizzas: More than 3,000
Pounds of Wings Sold: 120
Pounds of Dough Used: 2,000
Pounds of Cheese Used: 1,100
Delivery Drivers: 30
Pizza Creation Stations: 3 (The kitchen normally has one).
Employees Answering the Phones: 10 (There are usually four).
Time Kitchen Opens: 5 a.m.
First Pizza Delivered: 10:32 a.m.
Peak Pizza Hours: 2-6 p.m.
Last Pizza Delivered: 9:40 p.m.
Stolfe ordered eight new delivery trucks at $43,000 a piece and pushed to have them delivered before the cheesiest Sunday of his life.
The craziest Super Bowl that Stolfe ever worked was Super Bowl XLI in 2007 — when the Chicago Bears lost to Indianapolis Colts.
To get ready for the big day, Stolfe has to channel his inner Knute Rockne.
"On Super Bowl Sunday," he said, "I give my employees a pep talk just like coaches talk to players."
