CHICAGO — Six people were killed and 25 were injured in shootings over the weekend, capping off a bloody January in the city.

A 42-year-old man was shot and killed in Austin early Monday, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

In non-fatal shootings:

• At 9:50 p.m. Sunday, a 16-year-old boy was shot in Chicago Lawn, Sedevic said. The teen was walking on the sidewalk with other people in the 6000 block of South Sacramento Avenue when a van drove by and someone inside fired at the group.

The teen was hit in his chest and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Sedevic said.

The teen is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 8:25 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in Austin, Sedevic said. The man was in a van driving in the 1500 block of North Menard Avenue when someone in another car fired at him.

The man was hit in his buttocks and was driven to a police station, where paramedics were called, Sedevic said. The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in "stable" condition, Sedevic said.

• At 6:25 p.m., a 37-year-old woman was shot in Roseland, Sedevic said. The woman was driving in the 10200 block of South Forest Avenue when she heard gunshots, felt pain and realized she'd been shot in her upper right arm.

The woman walked into Roseland Hospital, where she was in "stable" condition, Sedevic said.

• At 3:35 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was shot in Grand Boulevard, Sedevic said. The teen was walking in the 4200 block of South Michigan Avenue when he heard shots being fired from a red car, felt pain and realized he'd been hit.

The teen was shot in his right foot and was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was in "stable" condition, Sedevic said.

• At 1:20 p.m., a 58-year-old man was shot in Humboldt Park, Sedevic said. The man was in the 3300 block of West Beach Avenue when he was shot in his side.

The man walked into Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in good condition, Sedevic said.

The man is a convicted felon on parole, police said.

• At 12:45 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in North Lawndale, Sedevic said. The teen was standing with a group of people in the 2800 block of West Roosevelt Road when a man walked up and opened fire on the group, hitting the teen in his stomach.

The teen walked into Mount Sinai Hospital and was in critical condition, Sedevic said.

The shooter ran away.

No one was in custody in these shootings.

Two people were killed and 11 injured in shootings on Saturday and three people were killed and eight injured on Friday.

The shootings marked the end of a bloodier-than-usual January that saw more than 50 people killed and 200 people injured, doubling last year's numbers.
