Woman Fatally Shoots Man Who Broke Into Her Home, Attacked Her: Police

CHICAGO — A Woodlawn woman shot a man to death after he broke into her home and beat her on Sunday morning, police said.

At 5:15 a.m., a 30-year-old man broke into a 28-year-old woman's home in the 400 block of East 62nd Street and beat the woman, said Office Janel Sedevic, Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The woman, who knew the man, was able to take out a gun, Sedevic said. A struggle ensued and the man was fatally shot.

Reginald C. Brown, of the 400 block of North Springfield Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:35 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The woman had a valid FOID, police said. No one was in custody.
