NEAR WEST SIDE — A man crashed his classic Cadillac on the Near West Side, and it got stuck atop a raised concrete planter in the middle of Harrison Street.

The car, a 1973 Coupe De Ville, got stuck just outside Andrew Jackson Language Academy, in the 1300 block of Harrison Street, at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

The accident happened on busy Harrison Street immediately next to a playground where children at the school were being dropped off before the school day started. They were cleared from the playground, which is separated from the street by a fence.

The driver, who could be seen standing next to the car as emergency vehicles arrived, indicated that he would secure his own tow and no one was injured in the accident, a police source said Thursday. As emergency crews left, he could be seen sitting in the car as it was running but still sitting atop the planter.

"He must have been going really fast for it to end up there," said one person who works nearby.
