CHICAGO — General Motors plans to help Chicagoans easily rent a car via smartphone app with its new car-sharing service.
The service, dubbed Maven, will launch in the city within the next few months, according to a GM news release. GM will provide cars that users can locate, reserve and unlock with a smartphone, sharing the vehicles with other users. The service is similar to Zipcar.
The cars will come with features like remote start and the ability to control heating and cooling with a smartphone.
Insurance and fuel costs will be included in the price. GM has not revealed how much Maven will cost, but residential prices in New York start at $9 per hour, said spokeswoman Annalisa Bluhm.
Bluhm did not say how many cars will be available or where they'll be located in the city.
