LINCOLN PARK — Come spring, Teavana will take over the former Hanig's Slipper Box space at the busy intersection of Clark Street and Diversey Avenue.

A spokeswoman for the national coffee shop chain confirmed Wednesday afternoon that a "Starbucks location" is moving into the space at 2754 N. Clark St. sometime in the spring.

Though she could not immediately confirm whether it would be a Starbucks coffee shop or a Teavana (a chain of tea bars run by Starbucks), Crain's reported in May that Teavana was moving into the space.

The national chain will be taking over a space that was home to the family-run Hanig's Slipper Box for 70 years before it closed in July of 2014.

The spokeswoman said Starbucks is in the early stages of obtaining permits for the space. This month, a renovation permit totaling $264,800 was issued for the space to make way for a "new ground-floor tenant" and "build-out for coffee shop," according to city records.

As of May 2014, Chicago was home to 164 Starbucks locations, making it the city with the second-most locations in the country behind New York City, according to a CBS report.
