BRIDGEPORT — There's a new late-night cafe open in the neighborhood.

Located at 3051 S. Archer Ave., JSmile 51 Dessert Cafe is open six days a week, offering gourmet French pastries, coffee drinks and sandwiches. On Fridays and Saturdays, the cafe stays open until midnight.

The idea for the modern cafe budded between cousins Pian Yue and Rocky Chen, two real estate brokers who live in the neighborhood and wanted a dessert cafe with French-style pastries close to home.

"Before, I would have to drive 30 minutes to get dessert," Yue said.

With two other partners, Yue and Chen spent two years developing a design for the cafe and finding a space to built it. It all came together in November, and the cafe has seen steady business ever since.

The café’s specialty is egg waffles — a bubbly version of the waffle topped with ice cream, fruit and your choice of chocolate or strawberry sauce.

Then there’s the Honey Toast, a Japanese-style dessert also known as “brick toast” for its brick-like shape. This dessert comes with two scoops of ice cream and either chocolate or strawberry sauce.

Take a look for yourself:

In a glass case at the front of the café, you’ll find an assortment of mousse cakes, ranging from $4.29-$5.59. Among them: Raspberry White Chocolate, Banana Foster, French Chocolate and Green Tea & Sesame.
