Burglar Peers Into Jeep, Smashes Its Window on Video

By Evan F. Moore | December 30, 2015 5:42am

LAKEVIEW — Tyler Roach spent a chunk of his Christmas vacation going through video footage of a burglary in one of the parking spaces behind the building he owns.

"My goal was to make sure that people don't leave their things in plain view," Roach said. "There's bad guys going through cars in our neighborhood. I came out to head to work, and I saw glass all over the ground. The car next to mine had its window busted out."

According to Roach, the sister of one of his tenants had parked her Jeep Cherokee in a spot behind the building. The rear driver's side window was broken, and the woman's purse was taken, Roach said.

Roach posted this video to DNAinfo Chicago's Lakeview Facebook page on Sunday:

We had a car broken into at 3021 N Lincoln Ave a few days ago. Here is the footage of the jerks. Just a reminder that the bad guys are in our neighborhoods also.

Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman, said between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, a man, 65, also had the window of his vehicle damaged and items stolen in the 3000 block of North Lincoln Avenue. Police did not have information on the burglary of the car in Roach's lot.

The brother of the woman whose car was broken into told DNAinfo Chicago that his sister was in town for the night after visiting a friend.
