WICKER PARK — Shuttered since October, the big corner spot overlooking Milwaukee and Damen avenues that was long home to Francesca's Forno could be replaced by a business called Publican Tavern.

According to information on a city building permit issued on Christmas Eve for the ground-level storefront at 1576 N. Milwaukee Ave., Publican Tavern will be making several interior repairs, such as replacing drywall, flooring and ceiling tiles.

But a One Off Hospitality spokeswoman said on Monday that the name Publican Tavern, listed on the permit, "is a temporary placeholder."

At this time, we are not comfortable disclosing any additional information," the spokeswoman said.

One Off Hospitality, which also owns nearby Wicker Park staples Big Star, The Violet Hour and Dove's Luncheonette, debuted The Publican in the West Loop in 2008. Another concept, Publican Quality Meats, a butcher shop and cafe, opened about four years ago.

Currently there are several job openings for Publican Tavern, ranging from cooks to servers and expeditor on an online job board, though those gigs are for an O'Hare airport concept by the same name.

There is currently no Publican Tavern on the airport's grounds.

The cook job requires an experienced person "able to perform all station functions of Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and cooking eggs," according to a job listing.

In Wicker Park, the 10,950-square-foot prominent three-story building, anchored by the former Francesca’s Forno on the ground level, offers six apartments upstairs.

The 111-year-old building is owned by Timothy Glascott, county records show. Glascott is owner of Glascott’s Saloon in Lincoln Park and a prolific real estate investor whose firm, Glascott & Associates, owns the buildings that house the former Beachwood Inn and the new Pub Royale, among others.
