PORTAGE PARK — Portage Park will welcome the holiday season with a blaze of lights and a celebration from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The big evergreen tree near the playground, 4100 N. Long Ave., will light up the night sky at an event hosted by the Friends of Portage Park.

Sleigh rides, music, hot chocolate from local Dunkin Donuts will be available, and Santa Claus himself on hand to light the tree.

A warm tent will keep attendees from succumbing to the cold.

While the event is free, attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for St. Cyprian's Food Pantry, 6535 W. Irving Park Road.
