Chicago Condom Day

SOUTH LOOP — Condoms have gone couture Downtown.

Models dressed in clothes made of condoms were passing out protection to CTA commuters Tuesday in honor of World AIDS Day. The promo, part of the city's new "Chicago Wears Condoms" campaign, included stops at the Roosevelt CTA station and near other platforms further north in The Loop.

The clothes, mainly dresses, were designed by students at The Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago in River North and ranged from "playful dresses to chic cocktail attire," according to a school spokeswoman. The drive was part of "Chicago Wears Condoms," a new campaign led by the city's department of public health, Serve Marketing, Planned Parenthood and others.

The promo was a one-day event for World AIDS Day, which was Tuesday. But the spokeswoman said a latex-heavy fashion show could be in the works soon. The message, as "Chicago Wears Condoms" says, would be clear: Safe sex isn't hard.
