LOGAN SQUARE — NBC's upcoming special "The Wiz" is going to be aired on the big screen at the Logan Theatre this week.

The special event presented by No Small Plans Productions is being held to benefit A Long Walk Home, a Chicago-based organization that seeks to end violence against girls and women.

The live NBC show, an adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz," features Common, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo and Stephanie Mills, an actress who played Dorothy in the original 1965 production on Broadway.

The holiday musical follows previous years' live specials “The Sound of Music” and “Peter Pan.”

Thursday's screening will start promptly at 7 p.m. Thursday. An art project for kids and adults will be lead by A Long Walk Home in the lobby area from 6-6:45 p.m. ahead of the show.

There is a $12 suggested donation for tickets, which are available online and, while available, at the door, 2646 N. Milwaukee Ave.

A Long Walk Home uses art therapy and the visual and performing arts to end violence against women and girls. The organization was founded in 2003 by a professional therapist and rape crisis counselor and an Ivy League feminist professor.
