LINCOLN SQUARE — Do you believe in Christmas miracles, Lincoln Square?

In a video posted to YouTube last month, the co-owners of Roots Pizza, Greg Mohr and Scott Weiner, teased a mid-December opening for their long-awaited Lawrence Avenue outpost. Probably, maybe.

"When can I get some cheese in Lincoln Square?" Weiner asks.

"In a month," Mohr replies, but then adds. "We were also thinking that two years ago."

This time, the two seem close to hitting their target.

Plywood no longer encases the building at 2200 W. Lawrence Ave. and, the most promising sign yet, Roots has been in hiring mode for the Lincoln Square location since late October.

Once the wait is finally over, what can diners expect?

An all-Midwest selection of beers, "foldover" sandwiches made with pizza crust and Roots' signature Quad City-style pizza, a nod to Mohr's Rock Island upbringing.

"Lincoln Square is one of the Quad Cities, right?" Weiner jokes in the video.

"No ... the Quad Cities will one day hopefully be in Lincoln Square," Mohr replies. "We've been promising it for about three years."
