Armed Robberies in Lakeview, Wicker Park, Bucktown Lead to Police Warning

LAKEVIEW — Police alerted residents Monday of a series of armed robberies to hit Lakeview, Wicker Park and Bucktown since Nov. 15.

In every case, the alert said, two or three men approached people in the street and pointed guns at them.

In a few incidents, police said, the men pistol-whipped their victims or fired off shots in other directions. In one case, a robber shot a man in his hand.

Police said the incidents were reported:

• 12:30 a.m. Nov. 15 in the 1200 block of West Waveland Avenue

• 3:55 p.m. Nov. 23 in the 2900 block of West Belden Avenue

• 5 p.m. Nov. 23 in the 3600 block of North Clark Street

• 11:41 p.m. Wednesday in the 1500 block of North Paulina Avenue

• 1 p.m. Thursday in the 2400 block of West Wabansia Avenue

• 12:05 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of North Hoyne Avenue

• 12:54 a.m. Friday in the 1700 block of West Cortland Street

• 5:50 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of West Surf Street

• 6 a.m. Friday in the 2800 block of North Sheridan Road

The suspects are described as black men in their early 20s, between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet tall, wearing black hooded sweatshirts. At least one has dreadlocks, police said.

The men have been spotted fleeing to a nearby car, which has been described as a black Toyota Prius, a red Nissan Altima or a blue car of an unknown make.
