CHICAGO — The Skyway was re-opened after high winds forced its closure between 91st Street to 106th Street Thursday morning, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The department closed the Skyway in both directions due to high winds at about 2:20 a.m. Thursday, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The Skyway was re-opened around 2:30 p.m., police said.

Chicago was battered by thunderstorms and high winds Wednesday night. Though the rain has moved through the area, a wind advisory will remain in effect through 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds could reach upwards of 50 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Some "pesky" showers could hit areas of Chicago through the mid-morning Thursday, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Jamie Enderlen.

There were initial reports that Chicago could see some snow flurries Friday, though Enderlen said the snow will likely pass over Chicago and could hit Michigan. She said Friday afternoon will be dry before rain is back in the forecast early next week.

Metra is warning commuters to give themselves extra time to travel Thursday morning, as some trains may be operating behind schedule due to the extreme winds, Metra said on its website Thursday morning.

The CTA reported numerous service disruptions due to the weather, although Green and Pink Line trains had resumed operation after a temporary closure between Clark/Lake and Clinton earlier Thursday.
