CHICAGO — Metra will be hiking one-way fares by a quarter and the cost of monthly passes will be going up $2.50 starting in February.

The Metra Board of Directors on Wednesday approved the commuter transit agency's $945.5 million budget for 2016 that anticipates a 2-percent increase in revenue from fares.

As a result, Metra's monthly pass will cost $2.50 more, a 10-ride ticket will be sold for $1.75 more and single rides will be 25 cents more expensive.

The increases will take place across all lines and will affect all rides, no matter how many zones are covered in each ride.
