LINCOLN SQUARE — Thanks to Daylight Savings Time, a lot of cycling commuters are now riding home in the dark.
This video from the Active Transportation Alliance, shot from a dashcam, shows just how hard it can be for motorists to spot cyclists once the sun sets. Not only are drivers dealing with "visual noise," blind spots and glare, but cyclists are one of the smallest objects on the road and can be easily obscured.
"You really need to stand out at night in order to be seen," Active Trans advises.
Bottom line: If you're going to ride at night, invest in bright, high-quality lights.
