NORTH CENTER — Kick the weekend off with a little retail therapy in North Center.

A pop-up market featuring retail trucks and merchandise from local businesses will set up temporary digs from 3-6 p.m. in the neighborhood's Town Square at Belle Plaine and Damen avenues.

The market is the latest in a series of events slated for Town Square as part of the city's "people plaza" initiative, which is designed to invigorate underused public spaces.

Town Square's participation in the program was announced in July as a tribute to the late Garrett FitzGerald, who long championed the square while serving as executive director of the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce.
