WEST RIDGE — All but one Chicago Public School in West Ridge and Edgewater received the district's highest rating in evaluations.

At least eight West Ridge elementary and high schools received either a Level 1 or Level 1 Plus rating, signifying an "excellent" score by CPS measures.

In Edgewater, all three elementary schools — Goudy, Hayt and Swift — and both Senn High School and Rickover Military also received the highest grade.

Only Mather High School in West Ridge received a "Level 2 Plus" rating, which CPS considers its "middle rating" that still keeps the school in "good" standing.

Hayt Elementary Principal Daniel Gomez attributed his school's boost to the coveted "plus" rating to Hayt's Local School Council, as well as "hard working, effective teachers, well-behaved, inquisitive students and supportive parents."

"Many teachers work tirelessly preparing lessons, correcting papers and working with students to improve their achievement," Gomez said, adding the students' parents are also especially supportive inside and outside the classroom.

Clinton Elementary's principal Eduardo Cesario said he was proud to see his school continue its upward progress over the last school year and that the school's focus has been on the "academic and social emotional growth of every Clinton student.".

"We continue to collaborate and think creatively to develop the whole child," he said.

Debi Prince, who works alongside Cesario, said their school was feeling great after getting the news.

"We are super excited. All the hard work is showing," she said.

According to CPS, this year’s ratings show 170 schools achieved the highest rating of Level 1 Plus, 162 schools were rated Level 1, 119 schools were rated Level 2 Plus, 174 were rated Level 2, and 23 were rated Level 3, the district's lowest score.
