CHICAGO — Former Bulls forward Carlos Boozer was known for many things during his four seasons in Chicago: yelling, getting buckets around the basket, and that time he apparently shined his scalp with shoe polish.

NBA fans have long wondered since Boozer — who normally rocks a chrome dome — debuted his peculiar hair style in a 2012 game against the Boston Celtics whether the 'do was real or fake.

Boozer, who is now a free agent, on Wednesday finally spilled the beans to ESPN's Dan Le Batard and Bomani Jones on their "Highly Questionable" show.

"As you can tell I started losing my hair a little bit," Boozer said Tuesday. "I had one guy ... he was telling me that I could grow my hair out, [he] can cover it up a little bit and make it look like [I] got a regular hair cut. So I tried it and he just made myself look like shoe polish up there, man."

The product his barber used was a sheen spray made by Bigen. Other men including professional athletes use the spray, Boozer said, but he knew immediately after application it wasn't his look.

"This is like five years later and I'm still hearing about it," Boozer said. "I heard it from my teammates, from my girl, I done heard it from all my homies growing up."

"I'll tell you this though: never again," he added.

The coiffure misfire was compounded by national television exposure, but Boozer said he was able to prevail.

"I had a hell of a game, like 22 points, 20 rebounds so the camera was on me anyway," he said.
