RAVENSWOOD — Ravenswood Elementary is having a very good week. And it's only Tuesday.

In his weekly email to members of the school community, principal Nate Manaen announced that his appeal of cuts to special ed staff had been successful.

Chicago Public Schools not only restored the two teaching positions that had been cut, but based on data provided by the school, added a teacher. Cuts to aide positions are still on the table, but Manaen said he remained hopeful those would be restored as well following a full review of his appeal.

"I want to thank all of you who have reached out to express your support of our students and families — it has been truly inspiring and a powerful reminder for me of what makes Ravenswood special," Manaen said.

But that wasn't the only good news the principal had to share.

CPS' latest school quality ratings have been released, with Ravenswood, 4332 N. Paulina St., earning a Level One-Plus, the highest a school can achieve.

Manaen thanked the community for the role it's played in the school's success and lauded his teachers for their skill and dedication.

"Teaching is complex, demanding work," he said. "Leading a classroom, keeping up with paperwork, communicating with parents, students and administrators while still be responsive to student needs and coming prepared to teach multiple lessons across several subject areas and/or grade levels each day is nothing short of amazing."
