LINCOLN SQUARE — Based on the number of events planned for this weekend, a whole lot of people didn't expect to be competing with playoff baseball for your attention.

Case in point: Chicago Artists Month brings one of its more unusual events to Sulzer Library, 1-3 p.m. Saturday, 4455 N. Lincoln Ave. "Interactive projection artist" George Berlin is asking Chicagoans to submit photos on Instagram, which he'll then turn into a 20-foot-tall mosaic "sculpture."

We suspect this needs to be seen to be believed, or completely understood. Find out how to submit photos prior to the event here.

More weekend fun:

• Newly opened coffee shop Cafe Chien is hosting its first poetry reading night from 8-10 p.m. Friday. Bring your own verse or read from your favorite work by another author. Or don't read at all — just listen and drink. Coffee and tea will be sold or BYOB. 4749 N. Spaulding Ave.

• Lincoln, Lawrence, Leland and Western avenues will be transformed into a gallery district Friday-Sunday during the fourth annual Lincoln Square Art Walk. The work of more than 40 artists will be on display. For a list of participating venues, pick up a program booklet in Giddings Plaza. Complete details, including info on Friday's opening gala at DANK Haus, can be found online.

Theatre-Hikes brings a Chicago-style version of "War of the Worlds" to North Park Village Nature Center, Friday and Saturday. Attendees will have the added option of choosing which of two actors to follow as they attempt to escape an alien invasion. Free. 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday, 5801 N. Pulaski Road.

• The Local Pizzeria cracked the top 25 in Chicago magazine's ranking of the city's best pizza joints just six months after opening, earning high praise for its thin crust caramelized onion pie. See what all the fuss is about, 3352 W. Foster Ave.
