PILSEN — A second record store is opening just off 18th Street in Pilsen.

Owners Tim Unsell and Drew Mitchell plan to open 606 Records, an "intimate new record store" at 1808 S. Allport in Pilsen on Oct. 24. The shop is located across the street from Thalia Hall.

Unsell, a former buyer for Virgin Records, and Mitchell, who worked in technology, first forged plans to open a record store when they met at a party four years ago. Both men are avid vinyl collectors, with more than 20 years and 10,000 records between them.

The two men have searched for records across the world, making local record stores a stop on their travels to Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Shanghai and Seoul, according to a press release.

The owners plan to push fresh talent at the shop and feature the up-and-coming artists on 606 Records turntables.

The store will carry new and used vinyl and the collection will feature all genres and span decades and languages.

The 606 Records store will host a grand opening party from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 24 with food, drinks and music.

606 Records will be open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and Noon-5 p.m. Sunday. The shop will be closed Mondays.

Another Pilsen record store Pinwheel Records opened in a vacant storefront at 1722 W. 18th St. in July.
