CHICAGO — Police are warning Washing Heights residents to be on the lookout after a string of armed robberies this month.

Two armed robberies were reported in the area on Oct. 1, with both cases involving a lone woman being robbed at gunpoint, according to a community alert issued by Chicago police Friday.

Police said two robbers approached the women, and one showed a handgun while the other grabbed the women's purses.

One robbery happened in the 9400 block of South Throop Street, and the other was in the 9600 block of South Carpenter Street, police said. Both incidents happened between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Oct. 1.

The robbers were described as two black men, between the ages of 20 and 25, and about 5-foot-10.

Police have asked residents of the area to walk in groups at night, keep purses and other personal items secured and equip cell phones with tracking software.

Anyone with information on the robberies is asked to call the area south bureau of detectives at 312-747-8237.
