AUSTIN — A man is dead and another is seriously wounded after a shooting in Austin Thursday night, police said.

Around 8:30 p.m., the men were playing dice in the 5800 block of West Chicago Avenue when someone walked up and tried to rob them, then shot at them, police said.

The men, both 36, brought themselves to West Suburban Hospital, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

One of the men, who was shot in his chest, was later pronounced dead, Sedevic said.

The other man's condition stabilized, Sedevic said, after he was treated for gunshot wounds in his arm and his chest.

No one is in custody, police said.
