LINCOLN PARK — Nearly 30 people have gotten their car tires stolen in the Town Hall police district over the last three months, according to a police spokesperson.

From July 1 to Oct. 1, Chicago police tallied 26 reported car tire thefts in the area, according to the spokesperson.

The Town Hall police district, also known as the 19th district, encompasses parts of Lakeview, Uptown, Lincoln Park, North Center and Lincoln Square. It's bordered by Fullerton Avenue to the south and Montrose Avenue to the north. The river is the boundary to the west and the lake to the east.

Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) recently warned constituents of an uptick of car tire theft.

She said the thieves are targeting dark-colored cars with larger tires parked on the street. The tires are typically stolen late at night or early in the morning. Thieves then leave the car on cinder blocks.

The police department recommends buying locking lug nuts for individual tires to deter thieves from stealing them, Smith said.
