WRIGLEYVILLE — Dear Cubs fans:

Be careful not to ignore the symptoms of pre-playoff anxiety — loss of sleep, loss of appetite, paranoia about conspiracies, panic attacks, irritability, social media rage, increased beer consumption, foaming at the mouth and hives.

They are real. So, remember to take deep breaths and remain calm. Take it from a Sox fan with experience enduring a successful World Series run during his lifetime. I know what you're going through.

Because we live in a two-team town where the crosstown rivalry remains a strong tradition worth savoring, it would be phony of me to cheer alongside you. So, I won't insult you by faking enthusiasm.

Instead, here's a small token of goodwill as you prepare for tonight's do-or-die Wild Card showdown against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

At the beginning of the season, I posted a collection of tunes chosen by Cubs players as their walk-up song at Wrigley Field on a Spotify playlist, and recently noticed that a couple hundred fans have recently started giving it a listen.

Maybe these songs — "Good Vibrations" by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch (Anthony Rizzo), "We Own It" by 2 Chainz (Kris Bryant) and "Alive" by Pearl Jam (Jason Hammel), among them —  will help ease your stress and help you get through the rest of this stressful Wild Card D-Day.
