Police Warn of Strings of Armed Robberies in Garfield Park

CHICAGO — There have been seven armed robberies in Garfield Park since the end of September, police announced Saturday.

Police issued two community alerts about recent robberies. In the first alert, men threatened their victims with a gun and then stole their cellphones, coats and credit cars. They took their victims' cars in two instances.

The incidents occurred:

• 9:10 p.m. Sept. 29 in the 3800 block of West Fulton Street

• 8:30 a.m. Oct. 2  in the 320 block of South Hamlin Boulevard

• 12:45 p.m. Oct.  2 in the 3400 block of West Walnut Street

• 3:07 a.m. Oct. 3 in the 2600 block of West Monroe Street

The thieves are described as black men. Three or four of them have dreadlocks, and another man is 25 to 30 years old and has a mustache.

A police alert also warned of another string of robberies in Garfield Park. In those incidents, victims were robbed at gunpoint of their cellphones, wallets and credit cards.

The incidents occurred:

• 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the 3900 block of West Congress Parkway

• 11:45 a.m. Sept. 28 in the 3900 block of West Gladys Avenue

• Noon Oct. 2 in the 3900 block of West Arthington Street

In the Sept. 28 robbery, the thieves are described as an 18- to 20-year-old black man who is 6-foot-3 to 6-foot-5, weighs 180-200 pounds and has dreadlocks and another black man with a teardrop tattoo.
