UPTOWN — The Chicago Park District will be celebrating Chicago Artists Month with the grand opening of their Arts in the Parks: The People's Studio exhibition at Truman College Saturday.

The opening reception for the exhibition, which "celebrates the rich range and scope of arts and cultural offerings in the parks" will be from 1-4 p.m. in the main building, 1st floor of the college at 1145 W. Wilson Ave. The exhibit features work of Chicago residents "who make the parks their canvas, their stage, and their space for creative dialogue," according to a press release from the Chicago Park District.

During the reception, visitors can learn about three different "cultural organizing projects" in Englewood, Austin and West Rogers Park through an open conversation with artist, citizens and park district employees in charge of the projects. Parking will be free in the Truman parking lot.

Chicago Artists Month is an initiative "that showcases the work of Chicago's independent artists and arts organization" and is "a platform for independently produced events and programs in all disciplines," according to the press release.

The exhibition will be on display until Nov. 15.
